Kumartuli: “The place of the creator of the Divinity”

Have you seen the creator of the Almighty Maa Durga? Perhaps ‘No’, however I would say if you are in Kolkata you can really see the person who shapes the divinity.

If you would  ask me, being in bengal what makes me feel excited, it is the flavour of autumn season. The bright side of nature along with slight breeze and the fragrance of “kash phool”( Saccharum spontaneum) one will feel like the celebration of Durga puja knocking at the door.

It was a bright morning of Friday, I just picked my camera bag and out for Kumartuli. Kumartuli is near shobhabazar metro station and 5-7 minutes walking distance from there. My first time experience to Kumartuli really healed my mental suffering with the delighted view of Durga Idol. My words really fall short to describe the experience of the day.

Hundreds of Durga Idol at a glance. Sculptors are making Durga idol with immense care like a father is bringing up his child with utmost affection and love. The best time to visit the place is before the Durga puja.

To click the photographs of the Idols one needs to create photography permission card provided by the “Kumartuli Mritasilpi sanskritik samiti”. The Fund raised by this is utilized  for the development and the medical purpose of the artists.

It was a pleasant day that I spent in the place of men who create the GOD.

Its very good to know that money collected for photography is being used for the benefit of the artist who sculptures the goddess with love n devotion.

Very nicely depicted. It’s the ambience and festivity around Durga Puja that makes me come back to the city during this time every year, no matter how near or far I stay. Kudos for the snaps, they are very beautiful.
